Olza M. "Tony" Nicely is the current CEO of Government Employees Insurance Company, better known as "GEICO", an American auto insurance company. GEICO is a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. Before becoming CEO, Nicely was the company's chairman since at least 1993.[1] Nicely celebrated his 50th year as a GEICO employee in 2011.
Tony Nicely, chairman, president and chief executive officer for the GEICO companies, joined GEICO in 1961 while attending college. During his GEICO career, he rose through numerous positions in the company, becoming a regional vice president in 1980, senior vice president in 1985, executive vice president in 1987, and president in 1989. In 1993, he was named chairman, president and CEO of the GEICO companies.
Nicely serves on the boards of directors of the Property Casualty Insurance Association of America, the Insurance Information Institute, the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters, Presidential Classroom and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
He is a trustee of Marymount University, and he is a member of the Federal City Council.
Nicely holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Georgia College. Originally from Alleghany County, Va., Nicely currently resides in Great Falls, Va., with his wife. He has two grown children and three grandchildren.
Nicely served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the George Mason University Foundation and is the father of Mason alumna, Lori Nicely '83.
